ALL TEXAN COMPILATIONS

LP - Are We Too Late For The Trend - E.S.R. LP #1, 1979
My Face Is On Your Lunch Box - Vomit Pigs / Siamese Love - Plastic Idols / Solid Ground - Telefones / Giant Girl In The 5th Grade - The Infants / So Sorry - Barry Kooda / We're Not Here - Blindate / Rocket Rocket - E=mc^2 // Dead Dogs - The Skuds / Nightmare In My Closet - Control / Whips And Midgets - Smegma / Lois, Lois - Superman's Girlfriend / I Love Your Neurosis - Nervebreakers / Karen Ann - Snakes

Good solid comp, a couple of great songs and no out-and-out stinkers. I suggest listening to the Unquestionably Late 7" on EV to put this in more perspective. [HW]

LP - Live At Raul's - Raul's RRLP9161, 1980
I Go Insane - Explosives / Stand Still - Standing Waves / Bridges Are For Burning - Terminal Mind / Real Love - Next / Cheap Girl - Skunks // Tommy And Toni - Explosives / Young Experience - Standing Waves / Radioactive - Terminal Mind / Teen Challenge - Next / Push Me Around - Skunks

Most of this is pretty lame.[HW]

LP - Live At The Hot Klub - VVV 006, 1982
Victim Of His Age - The Doo / You Really Got It Bad Boy - Telefones / Drug Induced State - Ralphs / Raison D'etre - Fort Worth Cats / Fade With The Summer - Ejectors // Mental Case - NCM / Let's Go Join The Army, My Country - Hugh Beaumont Experience / Two Fists - Stick Men With Ray Guns / Soldier Of Fortune - The Devices / Anamation - The Frenetics / No Can Do - NCM

And this lies somewhere between the two above quality wise.[HW]

LP - Cottage Cheese From The Lips Of Death - WARD-9 W-9001, 1983
Nobody Rules - Really Red / Runnin' Around - D.R.I. / Fight Back - The Offenders / Soldiers Of A Pure War - My Dolls / Bread & Bombs - Not For Sale / The Big Picture - Big Boys / Entertainment Tonight - Prenatal Lust // Christian Rat Attack - Stick Men With Ray Guns / Moo... - Hugh Beaumont Experience / Rock And Roll Asshole - Marching Plague / The Shah Sleeps In Lee Harvey's Grave - Butthole Surfers / Dickhead - Bang Gang / Gilbeau - Dicks / Meltdown - Watchtower
- The second pressing replaces The Shah Sleeps... with I Hate My Job.

Mostly excellent punk and hardcore. Recommended.[HW]

8" flexi - Moment Productions Promo - Moment EV83161, 1983
More Than That - D-Day / Lesson, Funk Off - Big Boys // Crash And Burn - Standing Waves / Dance It Down - The Pool

LP - A Texas Trip - Caroline CAROL 1339, 1987
Grave City, Kill The Innocent - Stick Men With Ray Guns / All Day, Flame Grape - Butthole Surfers / In The Neighbourhood - Steve Fitch / Grievances, Don't Play Cards With Satan - Daniel Johnson

Worth it for the Stick Men songs, Bobby Soxx fans take note.[HW]

2xCD - Tales From The Edge, Vol. 5 & 6 - Reel George Productions, 1992
Ballad of Jerry Godzilla - Telefones / I Confess - Nervebreakers / Houston El Mover - Joe King Carrasco / Trash - The Doo / Hero - Fort Worth Cats / Right To Know - D-Day / Urban Situation - Moving Products / Thru A Filter - Members Only / South Of The Surf - Schematics / Real Gone - Assassins / Teddy Boy - Ralphs / George Jetson - Ejectors / Satan Baby - Stick Men With Ray Guns / Move It - Tex & The Saddletramps / Money Means So Much To Me - Hugh Beaumont Experience / I Wanna Die Young - Terminal Mind / Cheap Girl - Skunks / Spazz Age - NCM / Vertigo - Standing Waves / God Reasons - Red Tapes / In Near You - Quad Pi / All The Pretty Girls - Judys / War Games - Experts

The first CD is more recent Texas bands, the second a late 70's/early 80's compilation, more new wave than punk but still with some decent tracks, some previously unreleased.[PR] Only disc 2 listed above. Of the otherwise unavailable stuff: Moving Products and Members Only suck outright; Assassins is decent grinding pop, Ejectors is great! (from an unreleased 1983 LP); Stick Men With Ray Guns - what do you think? - of course it's awesome; NCM is also very good; Red Tapes is decent artwank; Tex & the Saddletramps is a good Crampsy track by some ex-Nervebreakers. Liner notes are useful.[HW]

LP - Bloodstains Across Texas - Scando Scumbag, 1993
Rather See You Dead - Legionaires Disease Band / Cheap Rewards - Next / I.U.D. - Plastic Idols / Doctor's Wives - Inserts / The Badge Means You Suck - AK47 / Earthquake Shake - Skunks / John Wayne Was A Nazi - Stains / Hate In The 80s - Bobby Soxx // Scavenger Of Death - Bobby Soxx / Busy Kids - Huns / Lost Causes - Offenders / She's In Love With The Rolling Stones - Telefones / The New One - Inanimate Objects / Are You Into Destruction? - Bodysnatchers / My Girlfriend Is A Rock - Nervebreakers / Baby's Playing Games - Vomit Pigs / I Was A Teenage Fuckup - Really Red / Hydrohead - Ejectors

Remove the Telefones track and here is a really good comp. Yeah it could have been better but this is as good a starting point for the uninitiated as any. Still available from Forced Exposure last time I looked.[HW]

7" - Sacred Cattle I 7" - EV, EV-07, 1993, [600]
Participation - Boy Problems / Poor Sid, Duke Is Dead - Vast Majority // Slam Dance - Ejectors / Six Feet Under - NCM

EV exhumes prev. unreleased monsters.[HW] 1998 update - the Boy Problems track is actually called Precipitation.[RR]

7" - Unquestionably Late For The Trend - EV, 12, August 1996, PS
I Ain't No Asshole - Superman's Girlfriend / Hypo, Bomb The Arabs - Vomit Pigs // Twilite Zone - Skuds / Mag Rock - Dot Vaeth Group

Good stuff, post-potency VPs but my admiration for Dot Vaeth's punk/Southern rock crossover grows. Skuds and SG perform capably. Essential archeological liner notes as well.[HW]

7" - Rather See You Dead - Houston Punk 1978-1979 - Hotbox, #001, 1996 [1000]
Downtown - Really Red / Bother - Hates // Who Killed Martha Mitchell, Hypocrisy - Legionaire's Disease

Legionaire's Disease tracks are good. Really Red do a good version of the Petula Clark hit. Hates is OK. 100 black vinyl and 900 on coloured.[PR] Says 1994 on labels but was stalled for two years.

LP - Taco City Rockers - Kaniption, K005, 1996
Man In The Middle - Mystery Dates / Reality - Smart Dads / Who Cares - Marching Plague / EEG - Rejects / She Ran But We Ran Faster - Bang Gang / Downtown San Antonio - Los #2 Dinners / Millions Of Dead Spocks - Lost In Space

Great comp of San Antonio bands 1980-1995. I've only listed the 1983 and earlier ones here. Read the liner notes.

LP - Deep In The Throat Of Texas - Existential Vacuum, EV14, August 1997
Mr Wonderful, Monotony, Cheap Rewards - The Next / Crowd Control, Corporate Settings - Really Red / White Collar Worker, Armed Robbery, Baby's Playing Games - Dot Vaeth Group // The Badge Means You Suck, Kiss My Machine - AK47 / Cotton Fields, Grind Her Up - Uncalled 4 / I Wanna Be A Number, God's Groin, Throwdown - Vast Majority

EV strikes again. Six complete 7"s, full lyrics, amazing liner notes. Leaving the best till last - Dot Vaeth is retrieved from mastering hell and you get a bonus track from the master tape.[HW]

7" - Are We Too Late For The Money? - ??? boot, October 1998
Infants / Blindate / Skuds / Nervebreakers

Unseen and unheard at this stage.

CD - Outlaws In My Eye Texas - Cardiac Arrest 003, early 1999 Vamps / Plastic Idols /Stains / Really Red / Nervebreakers /Next / Legionarie's Disease / Inserts / Skunks / Bobby Soxx / Offenders / Non Compos Mentis / AK-47 / Vomit Pigs / Inanimate Objects / Huns / Ejectors / Bodysnatchers / Telefones
